When Paul Allen commissioned Lurssen to build a 126-metre expedition yacht in the early 2000s, the brief was unlike anything the industry had seen: a vessel capable of genuine scientific exploration, equipped with a submarine, a helicopter, and a professional recording studio — yet finished to the standard of the world's finest superyachts. The result was Octopus, and she changed everything.
A History of Discovery
Octopus has participated in the discovery of historic shipwrecks, including the wreckage of a World War II aircraft carrier. She has supported marine conservation research in the Galápagos, hosted benefit concerts for international charities, and served as a platform for deep-sea exploration missions that have advanced our understanding of ocean ecosystems.
