Bilgin 163 — The Complete Mediterranean Charter Guide

Why the inaugural Bilgin 163 (M/Y Eternal Spark, 49.95m, 2024) is the most discussed Mediterranean charter platform of the season — full specs, itineraries, rates, and what HNWI charterers should know before booking.

When Bilgin Yachts launched M/Y Eternal Spark in 2024 — the inaugural hull of the Bilgin 163 platform — the Mediterranean charter market got a vessel that, on paper, should not have been possible: a 49.95-metre superyacht with 1,120 m² of living space across four decks, all packed into a sub-500 GT envelope that keeps the smaller-vessel operational privileges intact. The shipyard's own marketing calls her the 'Best-Ever-499GTer,' and for once the superlative is defensible.

What is the Bilgin 163?

The Bilgin 163 is a 49.95-metre tri-deck motor yacht built by Bilgin Yachts in Istanbul, designed by Emrecan Özgün at Unique Yacht Design (naval architecture and exterior lines) with interiors by Enrico Lumini at Hot Lab Milan. The platform is engineered around a single brief: build the charter yacht every captain wishes they had. That brief shows up in unusual places — RYA-approved watersports centre on every hull, a 35-foot custom aluminium chase boat with shallow-draft propulsion for tendering into bays the mothership cannot reach, and a full-beam main-deck Master suite with a private steam room cut into solid stone.

Underwater she's powered by twin CAT C32 engines (2 × 1,081 kW @ 2,150 RPM), three CAT C4.4 86 kW generators, a 55,000-litre fuel capacity that yields a 5,000-nautical-mile range at 10 knots cruise, and zero-speed stabilisers active at anchor and underway. Flagged in Malta. Beam 9.25 m, draft 2.60 m at full load, 499 GT, displacement 495 tonnes.

Why 499 GT matters

Yachts above 500 GT trigger a step-change in regulatory regime — additional crew certification requirements, different port fees, longer customs clearance, restricted marina access in several Mediterranean ports. By engineering Eternal Spark to stop one gross tonne short of that threshold while delivering volumes a 70-metre vessel would envy, Bilgin gives charter clients the experience of a larger yacht without the operational friction. That is the trick. And it explains why the Bilgin 163 platform has attracted attention from competing shipyards.

Accommodation on Eternal Spark

Twelve guests sleep across six en-suite cabins. The main-deck Master is the signature: full-beam, 240 × 220 cm super-king, dressing room, and behind a discreet door a private steam room — a wellness gesture rarely found in this size category. Floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides; foredeck terrace for breakfast at anchor.

Below the main deck, the lower guest deck opens with a full-beam VIP framed in red marble and dark rose. Two doubles and two convertible twins complete the layout — the twins use a Bilgin-signature mechanism where the berths slide and join in the centre, creating walk-around room without sacrificing the convertible double option. Marble en-suites throughout.

The signature spaces

Three features keep coming up in client feedback. First: the 5,000-litre glass-walled Jacuzzi on the sun deck, sized to accommodate all twelve guests at once with the sea over the rim. Second: the sky lounge, which converts automatically into a private cinema with a 92-inch projector that descends silently from a recessed alcove. Third: the beach-club spa — Bilgin's signature spa-grade aft-deck installation with sauna, ice fountain for the post-sauna plunge, private day head with shower, and a bar that opens to the swim platform.

Charter rates

Eternal Spark charters at €350,000 per week year-round across the Mediterranean (with seasonal variations the broker can quote on request) plus 30% APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance), Greek VAT (12% in Greek waters) and Turkish VAT (8% in Turkish waters) as applicable per route. A crew of 9–10 includes the captain, chief engineer, chief stewardess, chef, and watersports instructor.

Three signature itineraries from Rhodes

Mogul Yachts has structured three weekly itineraries that the captain refines per charter, all departing from Mandraki marina, Rhodes (twenty minutes from Diagoras International Airport).

Dodecanese Classic (~280 nm, May–October): Rhodes → Symi · Yialos → Tilos · Eristos → Nisyros · Pali (volcano crater) → Kos · Old Town → Kalymnos · Pothia → Patmos · Skala → Rhodes. The dossier itinerary for charterers who want the full Greek-islands experience without long passages between stops.

Turkish Riviera (~310 nm, May–October): Rhodes → Marmaris · Netsel → Göcek · 12 Islands → Fethiye · Ölüdeniz → Kekova · Sunken City → Kaş · Aquarium Bay → Datça · Knidos → Rhodes. Crosses the border once early and once late, with most of the week spent on the Lycian coast.

Cyclades & Crete (~520 nm, June–September): Rhodes → Karpathos · Pigadia → Crete · Agios Nikolaos → Santorini · Caldera → Folegandros · Karavostasi → Astypalea · Pera Gialos → Symi · Yialos → Rhodes. The longest of the three routes — ideal for charterers who want to combine Crete with the Cyclades classics.

Bilgin Yachts as a shipyard

Bilgin Yachts is a third-generation Istanbul yard founded in 1928, originally building commercial vessels before pivoting to luxury yacht construction in the 2000s. Current production capacity is roughly 8–10 superyachts per year in the 45–80 metre range. Bilgin holds RINA, Lloyd's Register, and Bureau Veritas classification authority, exports to over forty countries, and has delivered platforms used by repeat charterers including the Tatiana, Mana, and now Bilgin 163 series.

Eternal Spark is the first 2024 launch from Bilgin Yachts — the inaugural hull of the Bilgin 163 platform, engineered around a single brief: build the charter yacht every captain wishes they had.
