Hidden Gems: The Dalmatian Coast by Superyacht

Croatia's Dalmatian Coast offers some of the most rewarding superyacht cruising in the Mediterranean. Our guide to the best anchorages and islands.

While the French and Italian Riviera attract the majority of superyacht traffic each summer, the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia quietly offers something more rewarding: extraordinary natural beauty, world-class cuisine, a rich cultural history, and — crucially — far fewer yachts competing for the best anchorages. For discerning charter guests willing to venture slightly off the beaten path, it is one of the most satisfying itineraries in the Mediterranean.

Dubrovnik and the South

The logical start point for a Dalmatian itinerary is Dubrovnik, the walled city that remains one of Europe's most extraordinary urban landscapes. Arriving by superyacht — with the old town's limestone walls and terracotta rooftops framed against a deep blue Adriatic — is an experience that no airport transfer can replicate. Anchor offshore in the early morning before the day-tripper crowds arrive, and the city feels entirely yours.

The Elaphite Islands, just 30 minutes from Dubrovnik by tender, offer pristine anchorages that feel a world removed from the city's summer bustle.

The Dalmatian Islands

Moving north along the coast, the island chain of Hvar, Brač, and Korčula offers a succession of beautiful harbours, excellent restaurants, and sheltered anchorages. Hvar town is the most sophisticated — its harbour accommodates yachts up to around 80 metres, and the nightlife rivals that of Ibiza in peak season. For those seeking something quieter, the north-east coast of Hvar island has deserted bays accessible only by water.

Korčula, the birthplace of Marco Polo, is perhaps the most characterful town on the coast — a miniature Dubrovnik without the crowds. The local white wine, Pošip, is exceptional and pairs beautifully with the grilled seafood that defines Dalmatian cooking.

Practical Considerations

Croatian charter regulations require vessels operating commercially to be ATMA certified and to employ Croatian-licensed crew for coastal navigation. Our charter management team handles all compliance aspects, ensuring a seamless experience for guests. The best charter months are June and early September — peak August sees winds and crowds that can detract from the experience. July occupies a middle ground and is perfectly acceptable with the right vessel and itinerary.
